Our first photo dates back to 1906 when Honiton Garage used to be owned by Ernest Helliar and was in fact a horse saddlery and harness business. In the 1930s, Helliar's son realised automobiles were replacing horses as a mode of transport so decided to change the saddlery into a garage. In 1945 Gerald Harris joined the garage as an apprentice to later buy the business from Helliar.

Cars would pull up outside the shop on the highstreet to fill their vehicles with fuel from tankers in the shop.

They hired charabancs, an old bus used for pleasure trips, and drivers to take people out on group outings.

1966 Gerald Harris bought Honiton Garage Helliar's and built the new and current site just outside of Honiton.

1969 Honiton Garage opened on the new site with a jet filling station, back when you could fill your tank up for just £2.50.

1972 During day power cuts, Gerald Harris overcame issues by using lawn mowers to power the fuel pumps.

1987 Honiton Garage opened the first drive through car wash in Honiton.

1990 To An Fro vehicle hire was opened by Honiton Garage.
